PRESENTATION

Most companies, especially financial services organisations, are in the process of establishing Public Key Infrastructure to support their business and the business of their current and future customers in the exponentially increasing e-commerce/e-business market space. There are many challenges in what is still an immature technology sector with a rapidly evolving set of business application sets.

This presentation focuses on the practical aspects of implementing PKI in reality, covering the very different requirements of internal and external PKI, in turn with an analysis of the different focus provided by so called "Open Loop" and "Closed Loop" PKIs. This is built upon to illustrate some of the issues with Trusted Third Parties and the current and future topics such frameworks of services will address. Finally, some of the potential short term futures of this technology and its practical application is covered.
