Nomination Letter for Joan Pohly

I nominate Ms. Joan M. Pohly, Computer Specialist, of the DISA INFOSEC Program Management Office, for FISSEA Educator of the Year:

JUSTIFICATION:

Ms. Pohly serves both the Department of Defense and civil Federal Government as an INFOSEC Awareness subject matter expert. She is in demand throughout the Department of Defense for presentation of awareness briefings, as well as sharing of her knowledge of information systems threats, vulnerabilities and programs where the federal community can find assistance in assuring the availability and integrity of their information systems. Ms. Pohly has been instrumental in the development of INFOSEC awareness products and training courseware that are available and in use in Federal Agencies world wide.

In the area of training, Ms. Pohly was instrumental in the establishment of the DoD INFOSEC Education, Training, Awareness and Professionalization Working Group (ETAPWG) under the auspices of the OSD ASD/C3I. The ETAPWG, with Ms. Pohly's strong leadership, has made important inroads into defining requirements and promoting the sharing of information and products. Ms. Pohly also provided guidance and direction in the development of the Training Resources Electronic Catalog (TREC). This catalog has been adopted for use by DoD, NSTISSC and the Security Policy Board for the dissemination of information security training and awareness courses offered by Federal Departments and Agencies. For her outstanding accomplishments in the area of INFOSEC Training and Awareness, Ms. Pohly has received monetary and certificate performance awards.

In addition, Ms. Pohly has provided support to and served as Assistant Chair of the FISSEA.
