README File for TAFIM Volume 6, DoD Goal Security Architecture (DGSA) The DGSA is provided as a set of self-expanding PKZIP-compressed files (that is, you do not need the PKZIP program to expand the files). Copy the compressed files to the directory in which you wish the expanded files to be placed and simply type filename.EXE at the DOS prompt. The DGSA is provided as either WordPerfect 5.1/5.2 or in PostScript. The naming conventions for the compressed files are v6xxwp.exe or v6xxps.exe, for WordPerfect and PostScript, respectively. The "xx" part of the file name corresponds to the uncompressed file names. The mapping, and the order of the files in the document, is: pf = prefront, ft=front, s1=section1, s2=section2, ..., s9=section9, bk=back, ms=master (master for WordPerfect only) The uncompressed WordPerfect 5.1/5.2 files total nearly 2.8 MB. The file master.doc is a WordPerfect master file. Unless you have a real need to regenerate the Table of Contents, List of Figures, and List of Tables, you are strongly discouraged from using the master file because it takes almost 18 minutes on a 386DX 40MHz machine with a 13ns. hard disk (not because it really takes so long for the generate process, but because condensing the master document is so time consuming). The PostScript files were produced from the WordPerfect files. The uncompressed PostScript files total just over 4MB. The original, printed Version 1.0 of the DGSA was produced in Microsoft Word on a Macintosh computer, using Palatino 12 point font, and the figures were produced using Canvass. The original was converted to WordPerfect for Windows (the figures were written from Canvass in Macintosh PICT format, cleaned up using Micrografx Windows Draw, and inserted into WordPerfect in Windows Metafont format). Because of differences between platforms and applications, the two versions do not print identically, even using the same fonts and sizes on the same printer. Thus if you have access to an original printed copy (or one made from an original), expect some minor differences in the ways the text is set. As a result, if you comment on the DGSA, try to identify text by section, paragraph, and line (as necessary) and avoid referring to page numbers. (Shortly, the DGSA also will be available through the Defense Technical Information Center. The Macintosh Word version will be available there.) Palatino is not usually available on non-Postscript printers. A reasonable approximation is to use the Times New Roman TrueType font. To make the subsitution of Times New Roman (or your font of choice) for Palatino simple, all font size specifications are contained in WordPerfect styles, except for those on the cover page (in the file front.doc). The list below gives the Palatino font sizes in each style and the suggested New Times Roman font sizes.
