Single-Device Threshold Implementations

Description

Abstract: In this poster, we present the standardization effort on threshold implementation approaches for implementing the advanced encryption standard (AES) in hardware chips. AES is pervasive in today's IT devices, but the secret keys can be stolen by resourceful adversaries who exploit side-channels in the implementations. The single-device threshold implementation approach mitigates such attacks, by raising the bar exponentially for needed resources to overcome the defenses in practical models. We describe the challenges facing our standardization initiative.
