NIST develops guidance for users of cryptographic technology and vendors who implement that technology in their products and applications.

Guideline for Implementing Cryptography

NIST Special Publication 800-21, Guideline for Implementing Cryptography in the Federal Government, November 1999.

SP 800-21 provides guidance to federal agencies on how to select cryptographic controls for protecting Sensitive Unclassified information.

Future Plans

The on-line version of SP 800-21 will be maintained to reflect the current status of cryptographic standards and their development efforts.
