1. What is the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence?

The NCCoE provides businesses with real-world cybersecurity capabilities—based on commercially available technologies. The center brings together experts from industry, government and academia to demonstrate integrated cybersecurity that is cost-effective, repeatable and scalable.

3. Is the NCCoE a part of NIST?

Yes. The NCCoE is hosted by NIST.

The center was established in 2012 through a partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the State of Maryland and Montgomery County.

The NCCoE is part of the NIST Information Technology Laboratory and operates in close collaboration with the Computer Security Division. As a part of the NIST family, the center has access to a foundation of prodigious expertise, resources, relationships and experience.

The NCCoE develops practical cybersecurity solutions—based on commercially available technologies—that can be rapidly applied to the real challenges that businesses face each day.

The NCCoE does not perform conventional research and development (R&D) activities.

7. How can my organization partner with the NCCoE?

There are several ways to work with us:

  • Participation in an NCCoE project as a vendor - Contribute your expertise, hardware or software to the solution to a specific problem.

  • Participation in an NCCoE community of interest as a user of our solutions - Provide information and feedback to help validate and improve them.

  • Participation as an integrator - Help customers implement our example solutions in real environments and provide feedback.

  • The National Cybersecurity Excellence Partnership - a formal mechanism for partnering with the NCCoE.

8. How do I learn about opportunities to work with the NCCoE?

We host workshops, meetings and other events to interact with members of industry, government and academia who want to collaborate on projects and other initiatives that will lead to practical cybersecurity solutions. In addition, we occasionally publish in the Federal Register to invite the public to participate on a first-come, first-served basis in individual projects and use cases.
